OUR SITES was an outdoor exhibition of photographs,
originally shown in 2005 at the V&A’s Museum of Childhood in Bethnal Green, East London.
This exhibition was the culmination of On Site Arts’ Gypsy
and Traveller photography projects on the three participating caravan
sites.
The large, robust and waterproof photographs were exhibited on the
temporary ramp leading up to the gallery entrance, and in trees.
The outdoor setting within the grounds of the Museum was deliberately
chosen to allow for as much visual prominence as possible, viewable
from the main road and railway beyond. It also aimed to respond
to the out of doors emphasis of the project overall.
The majority of the photographs were accompanied by a quote from
the child who took the picture. Several interview with the children
and young people were broadcast on television’s ITN News and
BBC London News.
The exhibition toured in 2006 to Garden Court Chambers in Lincoln's Inn Fields, London and then to City Hall, Tower Bridge, London.
